The role of the sacristian is vitial to the flow of the liturgy. Generally, our sacristians are young adults who are attending high school.

Here is a description of the job, which is a paid position:

Sunday Sacristan -

Before and During Mass

1. Please report to work at 7 :00 a.m.

2. Make sure that all the doors are open, including the elevator door

3. The church lights are on to setting 1

4. The A/C or Heating, if needed, turned on

5. If there is no need for the A/C or heating, open the windows to allow for proper ventilation

6. Prepare the sanctuary area: a. Light the candles b. Set up the chalice c. Place the wine and water on the credence table d. Place the keys in the tabernacle

7. Check for the number of collections

8. Gather the volunteers for the collection

9. Take the collection to the rectory

 

After Mass

1. Extinguish the altar candles.

2. Return the keys to the safe in the sacristy

3. Lower the church lighting to number 4

4. Set the chalice up for the next Mass

5. Refill the wine and water cruets.

6. Lock the church after the 11:30 & 4:30 PM Mass
